a little more nature, a little less noise
life moves fast. there’s always something to do, somewhere to be, or something demanding our attention. our days fill up before we even realize it, and sometimes it feels like we're moving from one thing to the next without ever slowing down. but nature has a beautiful way of reminding us that we don't always need to be in such a hurry. a walk through the garden, the sound of birds in the morning, or a few quiet moments sitting outside with a cup of coffee can make the world feel a little less noisy.
there's something grounding about spending time outdoors. watching the seasons change, noticing the first buds of spring, feeling the warmth of the sun, or listening to ornamental grasses rustling in the breeze. nature moves at its own pace, never worrying about what's next. the trees don't hurry to lose their leaves, the flowers don't rush to bloom, and the garden doesn't concern itself with tomorrow. there's something comforting about that, especially in a world that seems to be moving faster all the time.
sometimes it's the smallest things that catch our attention and bring us back to the present moment. a patch of moss growing between stones, a butterfly resting on a flower, the changing light filtering through the trees, or the smell of the earth after a good rain. these little moments are all around us, just waiting to be noticed. and the more time we spend outside, the more we begin to see them.
at rooted outdoor living, this is much of what inspires our approach to landscape design. we love gardens that feel natural and a little wild, spaces that invite us to wander, sit, observe, and simply enjoy being outdoors. a winding stone path, a quiet bench beneath a tree, or a natural stone patio surrounded by lush plantings can give us a place to step away from the noise and reconnect with the world around us. it's not about creating perfection. it's about making room for nature and all the beauty that comes with it.
whether we're spending time in our own gardens or creating outdoor spaces for others throughout naperville, aurora, plainfield, yorkville, batavia, geneva, glen ellyn, wheaton, downers grove, lisle, and the western suburbs of chicago, we're constantly reminded of how much nature has to offer. the changing seasons, the textures, the colors, the sounds, and even the imperfections all have something to teach us if we're willing to pay attention.
maybe staying grounded doesn't require changing our busy lives entirely. maybe it's simply about making a little more room for the natural world in our everyday routines. stepping outside before checking our phones, taking a walk without a destination, sitting quietly in the garden, or noticing something beautiful that wasn't there yesterday.
a little more fresh air, a little more stillness, a little more wonder. and perhaps, a little less noise.
sometimes that's all it takes to feel rooted again.
