beyond the blueprint: how i shape outdoor spaces from start to finish

as a landscape designer working throughout naperville, plainfield, batavia, geneva, wheaton, downers grove, lisle, and the western suburbs of chicago, i often get asked what the design process really looks like. it’s more than just pretty drawings and picking out plants—it’s hands-on, detailed, and personal every step of the way.

when i start a new project, i always visit the site in person to get a true feel for the space. i take detailed measurements myself—walking the property, checking light conditions, drainage, existing elements, and how everything connects. this step is essential for creating a functional and beautiful landscape design that fits the home and the homeowner’s lifestyle.

what makes my approach a little different is that i stay involved from the first sketch to the final planting. i’m on site with the crew during installation, helping place each plant exactly where it’s supposed to go. it’s one of the benefits of working with a small-scale landscape design company like mine—nothing gets lost in translation. every tree, shrub, and stone is placed with intention, just as we planned it together.

i love being able to work this closely with my clients and team. it allows me to be flexible, make real-time adjustments, and ensure everything looks and feels right. if you live in the western suburbs of chicago and are thinking about transforming your outdoor space, i’d love to help bring your vision to life—personally, and with care.
