creating a natural backyard haven in glen ellyn

i’m so excited about a new project we’re starting in glen ellyn for a sweet family with a backyard wooded lot. their property already has so much natural character with a little creek running through it, and we’re adding to that charm by planting a large amount of trees, shrubs, and perennials. we’ll also be installing tons of outcropping stone, natural boulders, and a seating area to create a space that feels like it has always been there. the design is very naturalized, giving the family a true outdoor haven that blends beautifully with the existing woodland setting.

the kids in this family already love being outside, and this new landscape will make it even more magical for them. they’ll be able to climb on boulders, splash along the small creek, and run through winding garden spaces filled with seasonal color. the seating area will be a cozy gathering spot for evenings, and the shade of the new trees will offer the perfect place for picnics, play, and quiet moments in nature.

as a landscape designer working in naperville, plainfield, batavia, geneva, wheaton, downers grove, lisle, glen ellyn, and all around the western suburbs of chicago, i see every day how important it is for families to spend time outdoors. it’s where kids build creativity, where parents can relax, and where memories are made together. creating these natural, functional spaces is about so much more than landscaping—it’s about building connection, joy, and a deeper appreciation for the outdoors right at home.
