planning ahead for spring landscape projects in the western suburbs

this time of year, i start hearing the same question from homeowners all over naperville, aurora, plainfield, batavia, geneva, wheaton, downers grove, lisle, and the surrounding western suburbs of chicago: when should i start planning my spring landscape project? the short answer is sooner than you think. spring may feel far away, but the best landscape design and construction projects are almost always the ones that start with early planning.

our installation season officially begins on april 1st, and once the weather turns, schedules tend to fill quickly. most years, we see a consistent 2–3 month backlog for landscape construction, hardscaping, patios, planting projects, and outdoor living spaces. waiting until spring is in full swing can mean fewer schedule options and longer wait times, especially if you’re hoping to enjoy your new landscape early in the season.

winter is actually one of my favorite times to work on landscape design. it allows us to slow down, really listen to how you want to use your outdoor space, and create a thoughtful plan that fits your home and lifestyle. during the design phase, we can finalize layouts, select materials, and coordinate details so everything is ready to go once installation begins. this approach makes the construction process smoother and helps avoid rushed decisions later.

if an early spring installation is important to you, now is the time to reach out. getting on the schedule ahead of the rush gives you peace of mind and sets your project up for success. whether you’re planning a new patio, refreshing your plantings, or investing in a full landscape renovation, early planning helps ensure your outdoor space is ready to enjoy as soon as spring arrives in the western suburbs of chicago.
