sunshine, fresh perspective, and the comfort of coming home

i snuck away to florida this weekend for my daughter’s engagement party, and what an amazing trip it was. sometimes a little sunshine is exactly what the soul needs. between the warm temperatures, time spent out on the water, and soaking in all the beautiful tropical plantings, it was the sweetest reminder of how good it feels to just be outside. meaningful time with family is always well spent — and honestly, even better when it happens outdoors with fresh air and a little sunshine on your shoulders.

as someone who lives and breathes landscape design and landscape construction, i can’t help but notice the details when i travel. the layered greenery, the relaxed outdoor living spaces, the way people naturally gather outside when the weather invites them to linger — it all sparks inspiration. even though florida landscapes look very different from what we create here in naperville, aurora, plainfield, batavia, geneva, wheaton, downers grove, lisle, and the western suburbs of chicago, the feeling people are after is exactly the same. we all want spaces that draw us outside and help us enjoy the moments that matter most.

i definitely hated to leave, but there’s also something really special about coming back home. our familiar routines, our comfy outdoor living spaces, the patios and backyards where real life happens — those are the places that ground us. travel is refreshing, but home is where our daily rhythms live, and where thoughtful landscape design/build work really shines.

trips like this always send me back into the landscape design/build season here in the western suburbs of chicago feeling recharged and inspired. because honestly, creating beautiful, functional outdoor spaces isn’t just about the plants or the hardscaping — it’s about building places where you can slow down, breathe deep, and actually connect. and around here, those well-designed outdoor living spaces make every bit of our good-weather season count.
