behind the scenes: getting our landscape design and construction shop ready for the season
every once in a while, we hit a point where it makes more sense to pause, take a breath, and get everything behind the scenes working better—and that’s exactly where we are right now at rooted outdoor living. while most of our focus is usually out in the field creating beautiful landscape design and construction projects across naperville, aurora, plainfield, batavia, geneva, glen ellyn, wheaton, downers grove, lisle, and the western suburbs of chicago, this time we’re turning our attention inward for a bit.
we’re spending the next week or two reorganizing our shop in a way that truly supports how we work day in and day out. that means creating clearly defined areas for bulk material storage and stone storage so everything is easy to access and ready to go when we need it. we’re also setting up a more intentional numbering system for equipment, which might sound simple, but it makes a big difference when it comes to efficiency on landscape construction and hardscape installation projects.
one of the bigger changes happening right now is expanding our shop space to accommodate additional trucks we’ve added to our fleet. as our work in patio construction, retaining walls, and outdoor living spaces continues to grow throughout naperville, aurora, plainfield, and surrounding areas, having the right equipment—and space to keep it organized—is essential. we’re also mapping out better parking areas for our trucks and team vehicles so mornings run smoother and crews can get out to job sites faster.
we’ve also recently added new skid steer implements, and getting those organized and job-ready is a big part of this reset. having the right tools dialed in means we can move more efficiently on everything from grading and prep work to detailed hardscape construction. it’s one of those behind-the-scenes upgrades that our clients might not see directly, but they’ll absolutely feel the difference in how their projects flow.
this kind of work isn’t the flashy side of landscape design, but it’s the foundation of it. when our systems, space, and equipment are organized, everything else falls into place—from communication to timelines to overall experience. taking this time now allows us to show up better, stay on schedule, and continue delivering high-quality outdoor living spaces throughout the western suburbs of chicago.
so right now there’s a lot happening behind the scenes. we’re building a stronger, more efficient operation so that when the crew arrives to start the season, we’re ready to create even more thoughtful, well-built landscapes for our clients in glen ellyn, wheaton, downers grove, lisle, and beyond.
