missing gwen around here

we’re really feeling gwen’s absence now that she’s back at school studying landscape architecture. it has definitely settled in that summer is over and she’s missed around here! after having her with us for the past two years, it feels a little strange not seeing her out on job sites, helping the crews, talking about plants, organizing projects, and posting on social media for us. i’m not so good at posting, so that was a particularly helpful part of her job!

over the past two years, we’ve watched her grow tremendously. when she first started with us, she was learning the ins and outs of residential landscape design and construction. now, she has developed the confidence and organizational skills to take on much more responsibility. this summer, she even led crews on projects, managing the many details that go along with keeping a landscape installation organized and moving forward.

there is a lot more to leading a landscape construction project than simply knowing what plants go where. there are materials to coordinate, crews to organize, details to keep track of, homeowners to communicate with, and plenty of unexpected things that come up along the way. watching gwen take on those responsibilities has been one of the most rewarding parts of having her work with us. she has grown into someone we can truly count on.

throughout the summer, gwen was part of projects in communities like naperville, aurora, plainfield, yorkville, batavia, geneva, glen ellyn, wheaton, downers grove, lisle, and other western suburbs of chicago. she got to experience all of the different pieces that go into residential landscape design and construction, and we know those experiences will serve her well as she continues her education in landscape architecture.

we’re so proud of how much gwen has grown and excited to see where her education takes her. we miss having her around, but we’re incredibly grateful for all the work she put in this summer and for everything she has contributed to rooted outdoor living over the past two years. she has become such an important part of our little team, and we’re excited to watch what comes next for her.
