creating a backyard oasis among the trees in glen ellyn

we’re getting started on a really special landscape project in glen ellyn, and this is one of those properties that makes us especially excited to get to work. the homeowners are incredibly sweet, and their home sits in a beautiful, established neighborhood filled with mature trees. we love working in settings like this, where the landscape already has so much character and history and the goal is to build upon what’s there rather than start from scratch.

the existing patio gives the homeowners a great place to enjoy their backyard, but we’re creating an entire outdoor living experience around it. the landscape design includes two new stone seating areas, lots of natural outcropping stone, and massive evergreens that will add privacy, structure, and a sense of enclosure. we’ll also be incorporating layers of additional trees, shrubs, perennials, and other plantings to soften the stone and create a lush, natural feeling throughout the backyard.

one of the things we love about landscape design in established neighborhoods like glen ellyn is the opportunity to work with mature trees. they give a new landscape an instant sense of age and permanence that simply can’t be created overnight. instead of competing with these beautiful trees, we’re designing around them and using them as an important part of the overall composition. the result will feel like a natural extension of the property rather than a landscape that was simply added later.

the stone seating areas will give the homeowners more places to gather and enjoy the outdoors, while the large evergreens and thoughtfully layered plantings will help make the backyard feel private and peaceful. it’s the kind of backyard landscape design that is meant to be enjoyed slowly—sitting outside with a cup of coffee, gathering with friends, or simply spending a little more time surrounded by nature.
