the simple pleasure of being outside

there’s something about these cooler days that makes being outside feel extra good. after a long, hot summer, the change in temperature makes it so much easier to linger outside for a while. we find ourselves spending more time on the front porch or back patio, enjoying the fresh air, watching the trees move, and listening to the birds. i think that’s one of my favorite things about a thoughtfully designed landscape. it doesn’t have to be complicated to make a difference in how you experience your home. sometimes it’s simply having a comfortable spot to sit with a cup of coffee in the morning, a patio where you can have dinner outside, or a quiet corner surrounded by plants where you can listen to the birds and take a breath.

when we’re working on a landscape design, we’re always thinking about how the outdoor spaces will actually be used. where will you sit in the morning? where do you want to have dinner? where will the kids play? where do you want to look out from the kitchen window? those little questions can make a big difference in creating an outdoor space that feels natural and connected to the way you live. i love when a landscape feels like an extension of the house rather than something that was simply added around it. a well-designed patio, planting beds, pathways, trees, and comfortable places to sit can make the transition from indoors to outdoors feel effortless. and when the planting is thoughtfully chosen, the landscape continues to change and become more beautiful throughout the seasons.

we don’t always need a huge outdoor living space or an elaborate backyard to enjoy nature. sometimes the simplest spaces are the ones we use the most. a front porch where you can watch the neighborhood go by, a small patio tucked into the garden, or a bench under a tree can become a favorite spot simply because it gives you a reason to slow down and spend a little more time outside. as a landscape designer, i love creating spaces that encourage exactly that. beautiful landscapes are wonderful, but i think the best landscapes are the ones that make you want to step outside and stay there. whether we’re designing a new patio, planting beds, an outdoor living space, or a complete landscape construction project, we want the finished space to feel inviting, comfortable, and connected to nature.

we’re lucky to do this work throughout naperville, aurora, plainfield, yorkville, batavia, geneva, glen ellyn, wheaton, downers grove, lisle, and the western suburbs of chicago. and as the weather cools down, i’m reminded once again that sometimes the best part of a landscape is simply having a beautiful place to sit and enjoy it.
